Please mark your calendar and plan to attend. In celebration of Black History Month and our 45th Anniversary a portion of the meeting will be devoted to community and personal archiving.

Both begin at home.

Family photo albums, church bulletins, block party flyers, handwritten notes, saved newspaper clippings, MMPCIA House Tour catalogs – these and more are all a part of our personal history, community history and the Mount Morris Park Historic districts larger story. During this meeting, we’ll explore both community archiving and personal archiving and how institutions and individuals alike can protect and organize their legacy history.

We’re pleased to welcome to the meeting as guest speakers:

  • Michael Super, Deputy Chief of Operations, NYC Parks & Recreation and President of the Ebony Society
  • Jewel Champbell, multi-media artist, archivist and founder of Blkground Press
  • Jerome Haferd, Assistant Professor, Co-director of City College’s Spitzer School of Architecture’s new Place, Memory, and Culture Incubator

We’ll also share:

  • Updates to our Patricia Pates Eaton Scholarship Fund
  • Details about our fifth annual Stoop Sale
  • Updates on plans to celebrate Marcus Garvey Park’s recording on the National Registry of Historic Places
  • Plans for our fourth annual We’re Outside art exhibit

We’d love your thoughts on:

  • Community Meeting topics
  • Celebrating 45 years of serving together
  • Community Housing priorities

We also have some fun planned. Please bring a photo, special personal memory or memento to the call.
