Preserve Your Story. Help Preserve Harlem. Harlem Archive Project Community Digitization Day

July 18 @ 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM

- Free

Every family has photographs, home movies, letters, programs, flyers, recordings, and keepsakes that tell a story. Together, these everyday moments become the living history of Harlem.

Join the Mount Morris Park Community Improvement Association (MMPCIA), the Harlem Place, Memory & Culture Archive, and Harlem Library for a free Community Digitization Day.

This event is part of MMPCIA’s Harlem Archive Project, an initiative to help residents preserve their personal histories while documenting the rich everyday life of our community for future generations.

Come through for this special digitization event, as in partnership with the Harlem Place, Memory & Culture Archive team, and several wonderful partners, we’ll have digitization stations available to scan and preserve your personal archival materials. Bring photographs, slides, negatives, VHS tapes, MiniDV tapes, Hi8 tapes, CDs, DVDs, journals, family papers, event programs, meeting minutes, artwork, flyers, agendas, certificates and other materials that help tell the story of your life, family, block, building, organization, or neighborhood.

You’ll leave with a USB drive containing your digitized files. You’ll also have the opportunity, if you choose, to contribute to the Harlem Place, Memory & Culture Archive to help preserve the stories of everyday Harlemites for future generations.

We are prepared to digitize the following formats, but let us know by emailing pmcissa@ccny.cuny.edu if you have materials in other formats you’d like to digitize:

Mini DV tapes

VHS tapes

Hi8 tapes

Photos

Negatives

Slides
